The most notable changes compared to the previous edition (ISO 8217:2012) as outlined in the standard’s introduction as follows:

Changes to Scope:

  1. Term Fuels includes:

    1. Hydrocarbons from petroleum crude oil, oil sands and shale
    2. Hydrocarbons from synthetic or renewable sources, similar in composition to petroleum distillate fuels (eg hydrotreated VGO)
    3. Blends of the above with FAME component where permitted

  2. Changes to General Requirements
  3. Additional distillate grades: DFA,DFZ and DFB allowing up to 7 v% FAME
  4. DMA/DFA and DMZ/DFZ: max 1,00 % S
  5. DMB: max 1,50 % S
  6. DMA/DFA and DMZ/DFZ winter grade: cloud point and CFFP: to be reported
  7. De minimis level of FAME in DMA, DMZ, DMB and RM grades : increased up to approx 0,5 % FAME
  8. Some annexes have been deleted but key information has been incorporated in the body of the Standard
